There are a number of factors to take into consideration when you define the maximum signal range of cat5
cable. The cat5e cable has a maximum range of 100 meters, however if you don’t take proper care you won’t receive the full effect of using cat5e cables.
At the maximum range of cat5 cable (or a cat 5e cable) it can support three various speeds of Ethernet, normal Ethernet, fast Ethernet, and gigabit Ethernet. Cat 5e cable is also completely compatible with applications using the normal cat 5 cables. Cat 5e is also significantly less affected by crosstalk while working within the maximum range of cat5e cables. It has been modified so as to reduce the amount of interference received from crosstalk.
If you go beyond the maximum range of cat5e you will notice significantly reduce bandwidth capabilities. Cat 5e can carry over 350megahertz of information while working within its signal maximum range. If you go above this maximum you will notice a much slower bandwidth rate closer to that of a normal cat 5 cable.
